A yearning that won’t be denied

Rachel Marek is a journalist with a plan. She intends to expose the truth about dragons to the world – and her target is within sight. Nothing matters but getting the truth, especially not the ruggedly handsome, roguishly thrilling Highlander who oozes danger and charm. And when she finds the truth that shatters her faith, she’ll have to trust her heart to the very man who can crush it…

A legend in the flesh

Suave, dashing Asher is more than just a man. He’s a Dragon King – a being who has roamed this planet since the beginning of time. With everything on the line, Asher must choose to trust an enemy in the form of an all too alluring woman whose tenacity and passion captivate him. Together, Asher and Rachel must fight for their lives – and their love – before an old enemy destroys them both…

Asher exited the car amid a flash of clicks from cameras as well as reporters doing their best to holler questions the loudest in the hopes he might answer.

“Is it true you’re a dragon?” one reporter asked.

Another yelled, “Shift for us.”

They had no idea how much he wanted to do just that, if for no other reason than to get everyone out of his face. Instead, he put on a serene expression, buttoned his jacket and gave a nod to a few spectators lined up along the entrance as he walked in.

Once inside the centre, there was no time to relax. Ms. Engel was right on his heels, directing where he was headed and giving him names of those he would be meeting.

He stopped outside of the closed doors of the room.

“Is something wrong, sir?” Ms. Engel asked.

“For one, my name is Asher, not sir.”

She held up a finger to stop him. “Mr. Constantine also tried to tell me the same thing. I work for Dreagan and whoever represents the company at the WWC. While here, you’ll always be ‘sir.’”

Asher could accept that. Blossom was beginning to grow on him. She might be a miniature drill sergeant, but she was damn good at her job. No wonder Con used her year after year.

He drew in a breath and released it as he looked behind them. “Is it always so…” He waved his hand around, looking for the right word.

“Crazy? Insane? Nearly fanatical?”

He nodded. “Yes.”

“Only when Dreagan is here.” Ms. Engel put the cap on her pen. “Before TVL, everyone just wanted a glimpse of those who were a part of Dreagan and get a taste of the whisky. After TVL, well, now they want to see what might happen.”

“TVL?” he asked, sorting through all sorts of words she might mean.

“The Video Leak.”

“Ah.” Well, that made sense. He turned his attention to her. “Did you see the video?”

“Of course.”

When she said nothing further, he asked, “What did you think?”

“It doesn’t matter, sir.”

Review: Stealing Snow

Title: Stealing Snow

Author: Danielle Paige

Date of Publication: September 20th, 2016

Goodreads Summary:

Seventeen-year-old Snow has spent the majority of her life within the walls of the Whittaker Institute, a high security mental hospital in upstate New York. Deep down, she knows she’s not crazy and doesn’t belong there. When she meets a mysterious, handsome new orderly and dreams about a strange twisted tree she realizes she must escape and figure out who she really is.

My Review:

This book starts out with the lead character Snow who has been in an in asylum for most of her life due to an incident from when she was a child. One of her only friends Bale has become more than a friend and on the day of their first kiss he goes a little crazy and gets locked away.

Strange things begin to happen and Bale is kidnapped to another realm, and Snow meets a another guy named Jagger who agrees to help her save Bale. She enters the new realm and discovers she is not a normal girl but a princess with magical powers.

I originally thought this was going to be like Frozen the way it sounded but really the only thing that was in common was the snow powers so that part was good.  I was actually really into this book when Snow was in the asylum and even when she gets to the new world with Jagger. I even liked it when she loses Jagger and meets a witch and gets trained by her and enters new love interest Kai and her new friend Gerde. Oh and I loved Gerde! I would like a book just written about her!

I started to lose interest when Snow meets back up with Jagger because at this point we already have two love interests. One in which she risks everything to save but then still manages to crush on Kai?? Then we have to add Jagger into the mix? I mean don’t get me wrong I really liked Kai and Jagger, but they don’t both have to be love interests!!!!

Another complaint I have is that Snow just accepts everything so easily, and I feel that she came into her powers too quickly and was able to manage them in less than a week? I think I wouldn’t have been so bothered by this, but that love square just kept bothering me and making everything seem worse.

I did like the author’s writing though. It was an easy read and she described things quite well.  The action was there which I did like. I just can’t take indecisive characters and also she just got these powers and just jumps into the action her first week?

If you like multiple romantic interests then this is the book for you. I still may read book two, but I hope that gets solved rather quickly.

Chasing Power Excerpt + Giveaway

Today we have the blog tour for Chasing Power by Constance Phillips. Check it out and grab your copy of the new paranormal romance today!

Chasing Power BT Ban

About Chasing Power:

ChasingPower-CPhillips-FINAL (1)

For Keiran Saysin, protecting the fairy population from humans is more than a job. It is passion and his duty to the realm. Since Eero’s revolution failed—and the discovery of fairy power lying dormant in some of the human population, that job hasn’t been easy. Now that his sister and her husband are welcoming a set of twins, old enemies have come out of hiding, hoping the children will a serve as a key to reclaiming what has been stripped from them.

Enter Annie Valentine, the genetic researcher Daniel’s mother has employed. Keiran knows the smart thing to do is cast a spell and push the human away, but something about the way she stands toe to toe and eye to eye has him forgetting that getting involved with a human could cost him everything he values, including his power.

Chasing Power Sale

He stopped in front of her and fell back to his Protector training. Straightening his posture and squaring his shoulders, he aimed for a position of authority. “So, you’re the doctor?”

She offered him her hand. “No. Tara misled you. I graduated from medical school but never completed my internship. My name is Annie Valentine. My mom is a friend of Daniel’s.”

Chalk up another point in the plus column for honesty. He knew shaking her hand was the polite thing to do but still hesitated. Leal and other researchers believed it was the call of power that caused most humans to go googly-eyed over fairies. Touch made that attraction worse. Keiran didn’t care what the caused the phenomenon, the last thing he needed tonight was a woman who couldn’t control her lust for him, even if she was the prettiest human he’d ever…

Slow down! He chastised himself and pushed forward, completing the customary greeting. “I’m Keiran, Monique’s brother. I appreciate that Tara invited you, but this is a family affair.”

“Yeah, we always have a slew of armed guards at our family gatherings.”

This was the reason he’d argued against allowing Tara to be at the births. She still didn’t understand the threat her ex-husband and his brother posed—even after the events of the last two years. Now, she’d involved another human in the mess.

How was Keiran supposed to explain their twisted family dynamics to Annie?

Monique’s cries had filled the air again. Apparently, the second baby had moved into position.

Annoyance twisted his gut into a knot. Monique wanted him by her side during the births. Tara’s selfish interference had torn him away from Monique and into his professional duty. “The guards aren’t armed.”

Not in any way she’d recognize.

Fairies had little use for weapons as humans knew them. In most cases, their powers were enough to protect themselves and those they were in charge of. “This should be a joyous event, but it puts Daniel and Monique in a very vulnerable position. And with Daniel’s family…”

How much did she know about all of that? What had Tara told those closest to her about her husband of nearly thirty years running off?

Annie’s flushed cheeks flashed like a traffic light against her pale skin. “That was rude and none of my business.”

Smart Girl. If only he believed she’d keep her nose out of it just because that was good etiquette.

Review: The Dead Boyfriend

Title: The Dead Boyfriend

Author: R.L. Stine

Date of Publication: September 27th, 2016

the dead

My Review:

So first off it has been forever since I read an R.L. Stine book, so I thought I would give it a go. Instead I should have been just saying no.

This book kicks off with Caitlyn our main character who eventually meets a guy named Blade and this is insta love of the worst kind.  There is another girl named Deena Fear who believes that Blade is both hers and Caitlyn’s which is all types of strange. She is a real weirdo.

Caitlyn does some real crazy stuff and some stuff goes down with Blade. It isn’t really a spoiler because obviously the title is called The Dead Boyfriend so obviously Blade somehow ends up a gonner.

Anyways lets just say Blade is backkkkkkkkkkkk.  Caitlyn is one of the worst point of views I have ever read from. I am sure my ten or eleven year old self would have loved this book, but I just can’t handle anymore of these R.L. Stine books. As history repeats itself this book does end on a twist as it serves from my memories of the Stine books. Sometimes nostalgia just does not work out, but maybe it will for you.

Summary from Goodreads:

Princess Sarita has everything. Loving parents, a castle fit for royalty, fine clothes, loyal friends, and an exciting job as a scholar of magic. When a strange old woman gave Sarita a secret spellbook as a child, her entire life was changed. The book contains spells, songs, and stories. But most of all, it provides a path to gaining full magic, the only thing that Sarita still needs to feel complete. And now, she has finally prepared to leave her home in search of the Stones of the Divine, the final ingredient she needs to gain magic.

Gabrielle has been known as the sister of a knight and best friend of the princess for as long as she can remember. Now an experienced healer’s assistant, she is desperate to find her place and purpose in Junacave. An adventurous mission to help Sarita locate a mystical stone may be just the change in her life that she is looking for.

And being twenty years old, with no heir, he is running out of time. If he can’t win the heart of the princess, he may have to face a future without the love of his life.

Adventure, romance, and magic await as we travel through Everealm with royalty, wizards, fairies, and more, in the fantasy-romance Songs of Everealm, a five book series by J.D. Wright, author of the Everealm Series.

Note: Adult Content

Songs of Everealm Series is the second series set in the fantasy-filled Everealm. It begins 8 years after the conclusion of the first series, the Everealm Series.

Cassidy smiled, walking toward her. He leaned against the table closest to her desk and studied her. She was so beautiful. He thought she looked a lot like her mother, but she had Rowan’s soft brown eyes. Her long and slightly curly hair was still blonde, though. It hadn’t turned auburn like Bree’s or brown like Rowan’s. It stayed blonde all through her childhood and to now. And it suited her other soft features. To most, the princess might appear delicate. He had angered her enough to know that she wasn’t. And she was just remarkable when she was angry.

Her gown was plainer than the ones he usually saw her wearing, but he rarely entered her space when she was working during his visits. He figured she would probably change into something more formal before supper. And she would be just as striking in an elaborate gown as she was in her riding clothes. Which reminded him…

“I wanted to know if you were up for finishing our race. I brought Stallion with me, this time. So think carefully before you accept. I would hate to make my princess cry when I leave her in my dust.”

Sarita narrowed her eyes at him, then stepped closer.

“I am not your princess and Stallion will never win against Dragonfly. My horse practically flies, hence the name.”

Cassidy snickered. “Does she fly like a dragon or like a fly? Because one doesn’t exist and the other is a giant nuisance.”

She smirked at him. Well played, Your Majesty. “Either one would be faster than your precious Stallion.”

“Is that so?”

“Yes. I think we both know that you will be the one in my dust. I hope you choke on it.”

“I love it when you wish harm to come to me.”

“Then you should be the happiest king in the realm because I wish harm on you almost every day.”

“Oh, I am insanely happy. Especially, right now.”

Sarita’s eyes widened. She suddenly realized just how close she had gotten to him. She wasn’t sure how long she had been standing there or when he had put his hands on her waist. Yet, looking down, almost her entire body was pressed against him. She quickly backed away and turned toward her desk.

“I will take that as your agreement to my challenge,” he said, turning to go.

She stared at him as he walked out of the room. When she was alone, again, she sank into her chair and dropped her head onto the desk. This was going to be a disaster. Sneaking away before the tournament was over would be nearly impossible. She wouldn’t get far before Cassidy would realize she was gone.

About the Author
Writing has always been a hobby of mine, beginning as a young child. It was a way to cope with losing my father at seven years of age. I started with poetry and was featured several times on the amazing poetry blog, Autumn Leaves, by Sondra Ball. My love for poetry soon led to writing songs in middle school and beyond, which I still do occasionally. Music has always been an important part of my existence, so writing songs came naturally to me. In high school, I started my own novel, however, life got in the way and I never finished it.

Fast forward many years later and I find myself married with three children, absorbed in my busy life with commitments to my family, work, school, church, and charities, among other things. One day I came across my old binder, with notes from my first novel, and it was with those notes that I conjured up the elusive Everealm.

I write to please readers such as myself, who have a love for fantasy and romance, but like a little danger and sex in their reading. I wrote the book with a mature audience in mind, who can appreciate a hearty imaginary world with magic and the unknown, but want more than fluffy love stories with wizards in them. They want the romance, magic, and danger, all wrapped into one.

Review: Mystic City

Title: Mystic City

Author: Theo Lawrence

Date of Publication: October 9th, 2012

Mystic City

Goodreads Summary:

Aria Rose, youngest scion of one of Mystic City’s two ruling rival families, finds herself betrothed to Thomas Foster, the son of her parents’ sworn enemies. The union of the two will end the generations-long political feud – and unite all those living in the Aeries, the privileged upper reaches of the city, against the banished mystics who dwell below in the Depths.

But Aria doesn’t remember falling in love with Thomas; in fact, she wakes one day with huge gaps in her memory. And she can’t conceive why her parents would have agreed to unite with the Fosters in the first place.

Only when Aria meets Hunter, a gorgeous rebel mystic from the Depths, does she start to have glimmers of recollection – and to understand that he holds the key to unlocking her past. The choices she makes can save or doom the city – including herself.

My Review:
Aria begins her journey by having lost some of her memory from being told that she overdosed on a drug. She is told that she had a love affair with the son of another family that her family despises.  The families have now worked things out, and she now finds herself engaged to Thomas a boy that she is told that she is madly in love and that she risked everything for, but she manages to not feel anything around him.
Aria finds herself running several times into another boy named Hunter who is a Mystic that has supernatural powers and can’t help but finding herself drawn to this boy for reasons she can not explain.
The Mystics are supposed to register themselves and be drained of their abilities on a yearly basis, but there is a rebel group brewing that has gone undetected. As Aria learns more and more about her family and the things they have done she finds herself in a place that may just put her against them.
I really enjoyed this book.  It was a quick read although very predictable. My complaints first were that it felt like a second book because in most of the book Aria was without her memories. I also wanted to see how her and Hunter initially met and their real story besides just a few snippets.  Also if these people have X-men like powers what is stopping them from attacking?
I did really love the characters.  I wanted to see more of Hunter because I really liked him, and I felt Aria was a really strong character by the end.  The romance is believable between them especially in the moments they are together.  I just wanted more of that back story. As for the other characters Thomas is a douche bag, and I loathe Aria’s entire family.
The end scenes were action packed, and I was engrossed in every single moment of those fight scenes and hope book two has loads more of those.  Last but not least being a sucker for a beautiful cover gets me every time!

Review: Wax

Title: Wax

Author: Gina Damico

Date of Publication: August 2nd, 2016

Goodreads Summary:

Paraffin, Vermont, is known the world over as home to the Grosholtz Candle Factory. But behind the sunny retail space bursting with overwhelming scents and homemade fudge, seventeen-year-old Poppy Palladino discovers something dark and unsettling: a back room filled with dozens of startlingly life-like wax sculptures, crafted by one very strange old lady. Poppy hightails it home, only to be shocked when one of the figures—a teenage boy who doesn’t seem to know what he is—jumps naked and screaming out of the trunk of her car. She tries to return him to the candle factory, but before she can, a fire destroys the mysterious workshop—and the old woman is nowhere to be seen.

With the help of the wax boy, who answers to the name Dud, Poppy resolves to find out who was behind the fire. But in the course of her investigation, she discovers that things in Paraffin aren’t always as they seem, that the Grosholtz Candle Factory isn’t as pure as its reputation—and that some of the townspeople she’s known her entire life may not be as human as they once were. In fact, they’re starting to look a little . . . waxy. Can Poppy and Dud extinguish the evil that’s taking hold of their town before it’s too late?

My Review:

Wax takes place in Paraffin, Vermont where a candle factory is the main attraction that brings in tourists. The main character Poppy had an incident on reality television and is constantly bullied by a boy at her school and is on a mission to get back at him. She then finds herself inside of the candle factory where she runs into a crazy old lady and thinks a bunch of nonsense is going on. When she arrives home from the factory she opens up her trunk to find a boy inside of it screaming and who may not actually be a boy at all.

Some of the people inside of Paraffin start to appear not themselves and Poppy is going to figure out what is going on and help save the town along with a new friend made of wax that she named Dud.

This was a really fun and very weird book which is not to be taken too seriously. The lead character was very snarky and witty, and I especially loved her conversations with her best friend Jill.

Dud was well Dud. He was really cute, strange and likeable and reminded me of Brendan Fraser in Encino Man except he wasn’t a caveman but a waxman. I also really liked Poppy’s parents. They were hilarious.

A lot of the events were predictable, and the ending did feel a little rushed and maybe not as creepy as I wanted it to be, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I liked that there was a team effort to help prevent the town from turning into wax, and another character I liked was Jesus who was full of craziness.  If you want a read full of entertainment then I would try out this book.
