Excerpt: The Forgotten Mountain

✿  THE FORGOTTEN MOUNTAIN (The Collectors’ Society, #3)

After years spent in Wonderland, Alice Reeve learned the impossible was quite possible after all. She thought she left such fantastical realities behind when she finally returned to England.

Now Alice has become a member of the clandestine Collectors’ Society, and the impossible has found her again in the form of an elusive villain set on erasing entire worlds. As she and the rest of the Society race to bring this mysterious murderer to justice, the fight becomes painfully personal.

Lives are being lost. Loved ones are shattered or irrevocably altered. Each step closer Alice gets to the shadowy man she hunts, the more secrets she unravels, only to reveal chilling truths. If she wants to win this war and save millions of lives, Alice must once more embrace the impossible and make the unimaginable, imaginable.

Sometimes, the rabbit hole leads to terrifying places.

“Chances are,” I say to Mary, “it will be as reported.”

She holds her weapon out, testing the weight. “They were given ten minutes to search the place.” A loud click sounds in the van as she pumps the chamber. “Even for those as skilled at retrievals like Finn and the A.D., ten minutes is nothing. Wendy asked the impossible of them.”

My partner’s name is a fist to my belly, but rather than leave me desperate to curl into a ball and weep uselessly about the unfairness of life and how I utterly failed Finn by going against my instincts whilst leaving him behind, it only solidifies the cold rage icing my veins.

Vengeance, the Caterpillar once told me, can be a delicious and fulfilling meal. Be certain it is what you want to eat, though, because as it travels through your body, it will seep into every last part of you. Your stomach may hurt afterward; you may even want to purge the contents. And yet, even if you can, traces of it will always remain.

My former Grand Advisor, whose head was struck from his body by the Queen of Hearts and whose body was fashioned into a gruesome clutch to sate twisted, vile needs, consistently proffered excel- lent advice. There were many I wished to wreak vengeance upon over the years, yet typically practiced restraint per his wise words.

He is dead. The man I am in love with is missing—believed to be dead by most. Mary’s love is also missing and assumed dead. Millions of souls have perished at the hands of villains through the destruction of catalysts. There has been too much devastation. Too much loss.
I am ready to eat that meal now.

Unnatural Souls: Excerpt + Giveaway

Today we have the blog tour for Unnatural Souls by Linda Foster! Check it out and grab your copy of this fantastic new paranormal romance.

Unnatural Souls BT Ban

About Unnatural Souls:

It’s been almost a year since the night of the accident that should have killed Grace. Nearly a year since her brother, Ash, sold his soul to save her. She survived, but that wasn’t the end of their story.

Not even close.

In the months since, Grace’s life has turned upside down. She can move objects with her mind, teleport in a blink of an eye, see dead people … and that’s just the tip of the crazy train.

And that would be fine, really … if she had any idea how to control it.

Instead, she’s stuck in a body that does things she doesn’t understand. And now, the contract her brother made for her life is drawing to a close. Which means he’s running out of time before the demon comes to collect his soul.

Unless Grace can find a way to save him.

When an angel named Michael shows up with answers and an offer to help her, she jumps at the chance—and agrees to help him with his own mission as the price.

Then she finds out that Michael is working with another demon. That the deal she’s made … is no better than the one from which she’s trying to save Ash. And she’s faced with a choice: turn and walk away, or try to save her brother—by working with the very monsters who have nearly destroyed them both.

Now a normal person would just think, Hey, someone’s walking behind me. But I wasn’t normal anymore. Nearly a year of paranoia kicked in, my heart rate spiked, and I took off running. I didn’t understand it, but something inside me knew I should run from the unknown person following me.

Paranoia was right. The footsteps quickened with mine, closing in on me, and then I saw another flutter to my right—just as the last rays of the sun disappeared. The shadow picked up speed, then disappeared into the darkness of nightfall. It was gone.

I let out a yelp when the mystery person dashed directly into my path and cut me off. He—it?—came to a sudden stop, but I kept running toward it at full speed, my brain not realizing what had happened. I was about to collide with it. It, because it definitely wasn’t human. This wasn’t a person. People didn’t blend into the night, and they didn’t move this quickly either. Fear gripped me, and my breath trapped in my lungs as I screeched to a halt, catching the toe of my shoe on a crack. I fell to my knees, hitting the ground hard, and the force of it rocketed through me. My hands shot out and scraped across the cement, my left wrist twisting painfully.

But I kept my eyes down, knowing that I didn’t want to see what was in front of me. I had a bad feeling in my stomach that I couldn’t explain … but then I realized that staring at the ground wouldn’t make it go away. So I lifted my head. And when I looked up, I swear my heart stopped.

A scream caught in my lungs. Red eyes.

Not a ghost. A woman with bright crimson eyes and a mouth full of razor sharp teeth was standing in front of me, grinning horribly. Oh, Grace, please don’t pass out. Because I wanted to. I could feel the numbness, the lightness in my head as it began to grow heavy. A demon. I could live millions of years, and I would never be able to wipe the red eyes from my mind. Because they were the same eyes that had stared my brother down nearly a year before.

What horrific irony. Ash had sold his soul to a demon to save me, and here I was, about to be killed by a demon myself.

Linda Foster was born and raised in Colorado, where she still lives with her (very patient) husband, two (very spoiled) ferrets and (equally spoiled) dog. Linda became an avid reading enthusiast the moment she picked up her first book, and has grown steadily worse. By the time she was fifteen years old, her library had become too big for her shelves, and she was forced to donate all her books to the local school, just to make room for new ones. Motion Picture Monday: Movie Review

Movie: Don’t Breathe

Date of Release: August 26th, 2016

Imdb summary:

A group of friends break into the house of a wealthy blind man, thinking they’ll get away with the perfect heist. They’re very wrong.

My Review:

So this movie starts with the main character Rocky and her friends Alex and Money breaking into a house and stealing things. Rocky is doing this to try to get enough money to save her sister from a terrible home that they live in with their horrible mother. I don’t know why Money is doing it, and I felt like Alex is just in it because he is in love with Rocky.

So Money gets this tip about this guy who got $300,000 from a settlement from his daughter’s death. The group decides this will be their last robbery because it will be enough money to able to get them out of town. They come to realize the guy they are robbing from is also blind.

Okay first off I have zero sympathy for these characters. I get it Rocky and her sister live in a terrible home, but come on come up with a different plan than robbing from some blind guy. Rocky was a pretty selfish character in general.  Money was just a terrible character in general and seemed like the typical douche, so I am not sure what Rocky saw in that. Alex was my favorite character, but he still made a lot of dumb moves especially for Rocky when I am sure there are way better people that he could have been hanging out with.

The movie was pretty predictable, but there were a couple of parts that did surprise me, but it wasn’t enough to make me scream at the top of my lungs “Yes!!!”

Also this guy became blind sometime when he was in the military, but I feel like he was a little too good at doing stuff. I am not blind, so I don’t know, but I feel like I would still be stumbling around a lot, and some of the stuff he did and had I was like come on man seriously?

Although it wasn’t the best movie I have seen since I haven’t been impressed by a horror or thriller movie in quite a while, it was still something to watch. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either.

Excerpt: Cupcake Overload

Cupcake Overload (Cupcakes #2) by Bethany Lopez
Grab the book during the release week sale
This is a Romantic Comedy/Suspense title

One night I was out with my girls enjoying a much needed ladies night while wondering if one more dirty martini would push me over the edge. The next thing I knew, I was in the club’s bathroom listening to a woman screaming, “No,” and a man’s voice growling, “I know you want it.”

That asshole picked the wrong restroom, in the wrong club, at the wrong time.

Little did I know the asshole was Cade’s VP, and although we saved that woman from his clutches that night, she’d be found floating in a motel pool a month later.

Running a PI firm is a lot harder than taking pictures for one, especially when your professional life spills over into your personal one. I’m going through cupcakes like our new puppy goes through piddle pads, and if I’m not careful there’s bound to be a Cupcake Overload.

I was caught between full-blown panic and hoping that I’d be able to blend in with the crowd.

That hope was dashed when Cade pulled me toward a large group of men and introduced me.

“This is Lila,” he said, and even in my panic, I could hear pride in his voice. He was happy to be introducing me to his brothers.

That felt amazing.

I tried to pay attention as the guys smiled and introduced themselves. Some stepped forward and shook my hand, some just nodded, and the oldest man pulled me into a big hug. They all told me their names, but seconds after I was having a hard time remembering them.

Jake, Rocky, Smitty, Big Ron, Pretty Boy, and Snape were just a few of the names that were thrown out. It was totally overwhelming. My head was swimming as I turned my head back and forth, taking everyone in. That’s when I realized that their vests had patches on the front with their names on them.

I breathed a sigh of relief and muttered, “That makes it easier.”

“What?” Cade said, leaning down with his ear toward me.

“Oh, nothing,” I replied, my face reddening as I hoped that no one else had heard me talking to myself.

Get it together, Lila, I chided myself. This time, keeping my voice in my head.

Cade pulled me to another group, and began the introductions again. This happened three more times before we were close enough to the keg for him to ask, “Want a beer?”

Yes,” I practically shouted, causing him to grin at me again. Warmth filled me at how happy he was, introducing me to his “family.” I felt tears welling as I realized Bea was right; this was a big step, for him and for me. He was finally letting me fully in to his life. No, I hadn’t met his family in Hawaii yet, but these people had been his family for over twenty years.

My heart pounded and my eye twitched as I took in my man in his element, proud and happy to have me on his arm, and I knew without a doubt that I was a million percent, ass over feet, in love with him.

Leggings For Reading

Lularoe Leggings!

I don’t know about you guys, but I like to be super comfortable when I read because I can never get comfortable!

I had maybe one pair of leggings before I found these little clouds of the sky! They are super soft and feel like they are a part of my legs, so I do not feel the heaviness of pants weighing me down!

The best part is there are so many different kinds! Patterns are my absolute favorites!!

Yes the cost is higher than a cheap pair of leggings, but it is definitely worth it!!!!! When I have my leggings on I am all set to read! Lularoe makes other awesome clothes besides leggings as well that is super comfortable and cute!

I have my own personal unicorn as well!

Review: Nemesis

Title: Nemesis

Author: Anna Banks

Date of Publication: October 4th, 2016

Goodreads Summary:

Princess Sepora of Serubel is the last Forger in all the five kingdoms. The spectorium she creates provides energy for all, but now her father has found a way to weaponize it, and his intentions to incite war force her to flee from his grasp. She escapes across enemy lines into the kingdom of Theoria, but her plans to hide are thwarted when she is captured and placed in the young king’s servitude.

Tarik has just taken over rulership of Theoria, and must now face a new plague sweeping through his kingdom and killing his citizens. The last thing he needs is a troublesome servant vying for his attention. But mistress Sepora will not be ignored. When the two finally meet face-to-face, they form an unlikely bond that complicates life in ways neither of them could have imagined.

Sepora’s gift could save Tarik’s kingdom from the Quiet Plague. But should she trust her growing feelings for her nemesis, or should she hide her gifts at all costs?

My Review:

I am not going to even summarize this book. You can check out the summary above. I was really looking forward to this book because I did really like Anna’s Of Poseidon Trilogy. This however left me into a ball of confusion.  The book is broken up into two point of views which are Sepora’s and Tarik’s. I preferred reading from Sepora’s point of view over Tarik’s, but I was still left wanting a whole lot more.

Some of the parts at the beginning when Sepora is kidnapped was actually alright, but then the author kept talking about spectorium, and I just didn’t get it. The word was so over used and some of the names and names of places were just too much.

The writing was easy to follow, but the story itself with prince and princess has been over done. Don’t get me wrong I love my prince and princess stories, but I just wanted something different and amazing, and while she did throw in this spectorium buisness and pyramids etc. it still was the same old story.

Even though I just wasn’t into this book I will read more from the author because I have liked everything else that she has written.
