Ruined

Goodreads Summary:

A revenge that will consume her. A love that will ruin her.

Emelina Flores has nothing. Her home in Ruina has been ravaged by war. She lacks the powers of her fellow Ruined. Worst of all, she witnessed her parents’ brutal murders and watched helplessly as her sister, Olivia, was kidnapped.

But because Em has nothing, she has nothing to lose. Driven by a blind desire for revenge, Em sets off on a dangerous journey to the enemy kingdom of Lera. Somewhere within Lera’s borders, Em hopes to find Olivia. But in order to find her, Em must infiltrate the royal family.

In a brilliant, elaborate plan of deception and murder, Em marries Prince Casimir, next in line to take Lera’s throne. If anyone in Lera discovers Em is not Casimir’s true betrothed, Em will be executed on the spot. But it’s the only way to salvage Em’s kingdom and what is left of her family.

Em is determined to succeed, but the closer she gets to the prince, the more she questions her mission. Em’s rage-filled heart begins to soften. But with her life—and her family—on the line, love could be Em’s deadliest mistake.

My Review:

After everything has been taken from Em she is set on revenge. Her plan involves killing a princess who is to be married to Prince Casimir of Lera and disguise herself as the princess. This princess was also the one who murdered Em’s father. Em is set on destroying the entire royal family and getting her sister back who they have taken, but Cas is not anything like her father. Will revenge get in the way?

Absolutely. Loved. This. Book. I was hesitant because there were a lot of mixed reviews, but I am glad I went with the good reviews because it was awesome. First off I really liked Em, and I could justify why she wanted revenge after everything that happened to the Ruined. Her sister has been kidnapped, her parents murdered, and the king of Lamir is set on destroying the Ruined. What I also loved was that Em is Ruined, but she doesn’t have any magic like the others. She only has her fighting skills which are really good fighting skills.

This fantasy world was both fun and dark which is a weird combination, but it works perfectly, and I loved Amy Tintera’s writing and the dialogue. There were a lot of witty lines.

Ruined is told in dual point of views between Em and Cas, and while I loved Em I have to say Cas was my favorite. He wasn’t cocky like a lot of the guys are portrayed in a lot of the YA books, but he was caring, funny, and a total bad A with a sword!

“He held her tighter. He would save her again, and again, no matter how angry he was with her.”

I loved the romance and how it blooms over the course of the book. Em goes from hate to slowly opening her heart, and Cas goes from falling for “Mary”, to hating Em, to loving Em. It may sound annoying, but it was perfect.

There is a lot of action, and a lot of killing. The author doesn’t hold back and there is some emotional stuff as well. Overall this book was spectacular, and I love and hate myself for reading it because I really want the second book in my hands!
