Goodreads Summary:

On the night of the Parkhurst ball, someone had a scandalous tryst in the library.
•Was it Lord Canby, with the maid, on the divan?
•Or Miss Fairchild, with a rake, against the wall?
•Perhaps the butler did it.

All Charlotte Highwood knows is this: it wasn’t her. But rumors to the contrary are buzzing. Unless she can discover the lovers’ true identity, she’ll be forced to marry Piers Brandon, Lord Granville—the coldest, most arrogantly handsome gentleman she’s ever had the misfortune to embrace. When it comes to emotion, the man hasn’t got a clue.

But as they set about finding the mystery lovers, Piers reveals a few secrets of his own. The oh-so-proper marquess can pick locks, land punches, tease with sly wit … and melt a woman’s knees with a single kiss. The only thing he guards more fiercely than Charlotte’s safety is the truth about his dark past.

Their passion is intense. The danger is real. Soon Charlotte’s feeling torn. Will she risk all to prove her innocence? Or surrender it to a man who’s sworn to never love?

My Review:

Charlotte has a history of her mother causing her to make a fool of herself and seem desperate, and before her mother can set her sights on Lord Granville Charlotte is set on warning him. While Charlotte is warning Lord Granville they get interrupted and have to hide but while hiding the mysterious couple who they can not see decide to have a tryst. When the couple leaves Charlotte and Lord Granville are caught together and are mistaken for the couple. Charlotte is determined to find out who the couple was so that she will not be forced to marry Lord Granville even though she quite likes him.

This was a cute book that was light and fluffy and had a little mystery as well. Charlotte was a great character, and I adored her personality and her sense of humor. I pretty much never read historical romance unless it is Tessa Dare because they are always so cute and funny.

I liked seeing Lord Granville since in book two in the Castles Ever After series he was left not engaged anymore, so it was good seeing him get his own romance. The swoon was spot on, and it was a quick and easy read for a nice fall day!
