My Review:

Pixar is pretty tricky for me because I hate most of their movies with the exception of Brave—that reminded me more of the straight up Disney side like Tangled, etc. I just don’t get a lot of cartoon movies, and I mainly like stuff like Coraline, etc. However, I really liked The Book of Life which this trailer gave me some of those vibes.

I generally have to take my daughter to most of these cartoon movies which I usually hate, especially the corny animal ones. I can’t think of one talking animal movie I like… I am even not that big of a fan of The Lion King.

Anyway, I was already annoyed with all the skeleton’s having eyeballs. I know, I know, I love Corpse Bride and some of them have eyeballs, but they are more of a creepy eyeball. And in The Book of Life it was more of a cool flame type thing. I know Pixar was probably trying to make the skeletons more kid friendly, but it just looks dumb!

The movie itself was just okay for me. I found myself rolling my eyes a lot, but my husband and daughter seemed to love it. There was a “twist” I didn’t see coming, so at least Pixar got me there. The scenes were gorgeous and colorful, especially the amazing spirit animals. So, I was more thrilled about the vibrant setting than the story line itself. But it’s a good story for kids to remember family is important—so there’s that. What I’m more excited for is my daughter wants to see the new Star Wars!

  1. The animated movies are so hit & miss for me. Occasionally, but only very rarely, I’ll really love one of them. Up. Monsters, Inc. Finding Dory. The rest of the time they make me want to eat my hair in frustration and dislike.

So kudos to you for taking your daughter to see them! Even though you don’t like them either.

  2. I have not seen this one yet, however I want to. I though I’d go to it with my teenage son, however, his Spanish class went to it as a field trip this week..☹️ I guess I’ll wait for it to come out on DVD and rent it. BTW, the Lion King was amazing- I’ve seen it probably 7 times. 🦁🐒🦓🐁🐗
