IMDB Summary: A family is forced to live in silence while hiding from creatures that hunt by sound.

My Review:

I don’t know what to say anymore. Another let down—overhyped. Everyone I know has told me how good this movie was, and maybe I’ve seen way too many horror movies, but come on!

I will say my favorite aspect was the family dynamic, maybe it’s because I have a child of my own and would do anything to protect her. And I feel like that is the heart of this movie, which I loved.

Now let’s get to the monster/alien peeps. First, the whole thing gave me Signs vibes, except I actually preferred that movie to this one. Also the whole no making sound things was hypocritical in the fact that when the creatures make noises, example ripping up cars, no other creatures come out?? If they are blind, how do they know it’s one of their own making those noises? They don’t! There were cliches as well—example, opening scene and the end. No spoilers, though.

Back to the family… I absolutely adored Millicent Simmonds who was excellent as the deaf daughter. Emily Blunt and John Krasinski were great and had a lovely relationship—probably because they are married in real life. Overall, I would just liked to have seen the horror aspects not be so unoriginal. I did like it better than IT, which was also over-hyped. Maybe I just shouldn’t watch new horror movies.

Have you seen this movie?
