Review: Prince’s Gambit

Title: Prince’s Gambit

Author: C.S. Pacat

Goodreads Summary:

With their countries on the brink of war, Damen and his new master, Prince Laurent, must exchange the intrigues of the palace for the sweeping might of the battlefield as they travel to the border to avert a lethal plot.

Forced to hide his identity, Damen finds himself increasingly drawn to the dangerous, charismatic Laurent. But as the fledgling trust between the two men deepens, the truth of secrets from both their pasts is poised to deal them the crowning death blow . . .

My Review:

After book one, I had to dive straight into this bad boy. And seriously, it was even better than Captive Prince!

Damen, I love you! And Laurent, you have my heart! My sweet, sweet boys! The tension and angst between these two was perfect and on fire!

There were twists and betrayals and awesomeness and sadness and a lot of me with my eyes wide while reading!

Pacat has built an incredible world full of nightmares and treasures and I just need more! Can’t wait to read the last book!

The Midnight Lie Blog Tour

Title: The Midnight Lie

Author: Marie Rutkoski

Goodreads Summary:

Where Nirrim lives, crime abounds, a harsh tribunal rules, and society’s pleasures are reserved for the High Kith. Life in the Ward is grim and punishing. People of her low status are forbidden from sampling sweets or wearing colors. You either follow the rules, or pay a tithe and suffer the consequences.

Nirrim keeps her head down and a dangerous secret close to her chest.

But then she encounters Sid, a rakish traveler from far away who whispers rumors that the High Caste possesses magic. Sid tempts Nirrim to seek that magic for herself. But to do that, Nirrim must surrender her old life. She must place her trust in this sly stranger who asks, above all, not to be trusted.

My Review:

The Winner’s series is one of my favorite all time series! I love the world the author created so much! So when I heard there would be a spin-off of sorts, I was very interested and excited!

Rutkoski’s writing is just as wonderful as ever! She knows how to truly build a lush world that a reader can visualize. This one was a lot different than Winner’s Curse but still had characters who felt real.

There was romance and one very unexpected twist that I didn’t see coming! I’m very intrigued to see how the next book will play out! Oh, and yes, there might be some appearances from past characters!

Review: Frozen Stiff Drink

Title: Frozen Stiff Drink

Author: James J. Cudney

Date of Publication: March 18th, 2020

Goodreads Summary:

A winter blizzard barrels toward Wharton County with a vengeance. Madam Zenya predicted the raging storm would change the course of Kellan’s life, but the famed seer never could’ve prepared him for all the collateral damage. Nana D disappears after visiting a patient at Willow Trees, leaving behind a trail of confusion. When the patient turns up dead, and second body is discovered beneath the snowbanks, Kellan must face his worst fears. What tragedy has befallen his beloved grandmother?

Kellan’s brother Hampton learns essential life lessons the hard way after his father-in-law accuses him of embezzlement. While trying to prove his innocence, Hampton digs himself a deeper hole that might lead to prison. Sheriff Montague wants to save him, but she receives the shock of her life as the past hurtles forward and complicates her future.

Between locating Nana D and solving the scandalous murder of another prominent Braxton citizen, Kellan and April’s worlds explode with more turmoil than they can handle. Too bad neither one of them knows what to do about the psychic’s latest premonition. The suspicious deaths happening around town aren’t ending anytime soon.

My Review:

This series has been so much fun! Each book gets better and more entertaining! I love Cudney’s writing and the way he can put the unexpected into his stories!

I’ve loved seeing the character growth in all the characters in each book! Kellan is such a likable character and being in his head is the best! And nothing can come easy for my boy! I also seriously love the sweet moments between Kellan and April, even though they have a lot of chaotic things going on!

There was a certain scene of bickering between Nana D and Kellan that had me laughing out loud too! I’m serious when I say this needs to be a Netflix series already! Cudney also knows how to write cliffhangers dang good, leaving me yearning for the next book!

Review: Captive Prince

Title: Captive Prince

Author: C.S. Pacat

Goodreads Summary:

Damen is a warrior hero to his people, and the rightful heir to the throne of Akielos. But when his half brother seizes power, Damen is captured, stripped of his identity, and sent to serve the prince of an enemy nation as a pleasure slave.

Beautiful, manipulative, and deadly, his new master, Prince Laurent, epitomizes the worst of the court at Vere. But in the lethal political web of the Veretian court, nothing is as it seems, and when Damen finds himself caught up in a play for the throne, he must work together with Laurent to survive and save his country.

For Damen, there is just one rule: never, ever reveal his true identity. Because the one man Damen needs is the one man who has more reason to hate him than anyone else…

My Review:

Holy toledo! This book was so freaking addicting! I especially loved the world that was created here, even though it was a super dark one!

Damen is in a crap hole of a mess because of his half brother making himself king after letting everyone believe Damen is dead! Damen is now a slave in his enemy country where he can’t reveal who he really is because he risks getting killed.

Laurent is a real something. I don’t know what exactly but I loved him! There was a lot of shocking moments that even had me raising my eyebrows! But I just couldn’t put this one down! I’m seriously yearning for book 2!
