Movie Review: Split

split

IMDB Summary:

After three girls are kidnapped by a man with 24 distinct personalities they must find some of the different personalities that can help them while running away and staying alive from the others.

My Review:

So, we all know that M. Knight has a hit or miss when it comes to his movies. The Village is my absolute favorite out of all his movies. Even though a lot of people didn’t like it back in 2004, because it wasn’t what they thought it was going to be. To me, I loved it. It reminded me of Running Out of Time; a middle grade book that I read back in the 90’s. Anyways, I am getting off topic here.

Split was a hit for me. I may be biased because I L.O.V.E. almost all of James McAvoy’s movies. Even if it was a different actor, I still would have liked it. I’m a big fan of movies that have different personalities. Going from one character to another has got to be difficult, and it was sooooooooo good here.

The kidnapped girls, I feel like I would have done things differently in their situations, but I have never been in their situation. So, would I really have? Or, am I all talk? I thought Anya Taylor-Joy was a little mechanical, but her backstory had me understanding why she was the way she was.

The pacing had me wanting to know what was going to happen, and were these “bad personalities” all talk and no show about a beast? We do come to find out. Also, there is a cameo that had me leaping for joy. If you haven’t seen this movie I am talking about, you might not know!

Go check it out for yourself!

IMDB Summary:

A scathing black comedy of embarrassment, RID OF ME charts the emotional breakdown and rebirth of a woman ripe for self-discovery.

I actually saw this several years ago on Netflix, and I absolutely loved it. I loved Meris, and how she was just trying to find herself after trying to be someone she just wasn’t for a man that she wasn’t meant to be with. It had a lot of funny moments and an even big WTF moment. I just wish that we had small candy stores like that here!

Movie: Don’t Breathe

Date of Release: August 26th, 2016

Don't

Imdb summary:

A group of friends break into the house of a wealthy blind man, thinking they’ll get away with the perfect heist. They’re very wrong.

My Review:

So this movie starts with the main character Rocky and her friends Alex and Money breaking into a house and stealing things. Rocky is doing this to try to get enough money to save her sister from a terrible home that they live in with their horrible mother. I don’t know why Money is doing it, and I felt like Alex is just in it because he is in love with Rocky.

So Money gets this tip about this guy who got $300,000 from a settlement from his daughter’s death. The group decides this will be their last robbery because it will be enough money to able to get them out of town. They come to realize the guy they are robbing from is also blind.

Okay first off I have zero sympathy for these characters. I get it Rocky and her sister live in a terrible home, but come on come up with a different plan than robbing from some blind guy. Rocky was a pretty selfish character in general.  Money was just a terrible character in general and seemed like the typical douche, so I am not sure what Rocky saw in that. Alex was my favorite character, but he still made a lot of dumb moves especially for Rocky when I am sure there are way better people that he could have been hanging out with.

The movie was pretty predictable, but there were a couple of parts that did surprise me, but it wasn’t enough to make me scream at the top of my lungs “Yes!!!”

Also this guy became blind sometime when he was in the military, but I feel like he was a little too good at doing stuff. I am not blind, so I don’t know, but I feel like I would still be stumbling around a lot, and some of the stuff he did and had I was like come on man seriously?

Although it wasn’t the best movie I have seen since I haven’t been impressed by a horror or thriller movie in quite a while, it was still something to watch. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either.

What book to movie are you currently waiting for?

Movie: The BFG

Book by: Roald Dahl

Imdb Summary: A girl named Sophie encounters the Big Friendly Giant who, despite his intimidating appearance, turns out to be a kindhearted soul who is considered an outcast by the other giants because, unlike them, he refuses to eat children.

I have loved the other Roald Dahl movies that I have seen such as Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Witches, and James and the Giant Peach, so I am pretty excited and think this will definitely meet my expectations!

What book or series would you want to be turned into a film?

Title: Blood of Eden series, Book 1: The Immortal Rules, Book 2: The Eternity Cure, and Book 3: The Forever Song

Author: Julie Kagawa

I haven’t found a whole lot of movies that have been turned from a book into a movie especially in the YA field that I have really loved.  There are a lot of other books I would like turned into movies, but I feel like the film industry wouldn’t get it right.

I feel like The Immortal Rules would do really well on screen especially if they would take it down a darker path and try not to focus the whole movie on the romance.  Yes there is a romance, and it is absolutely perfect, but there are way more to these books.  These are vampire books that were done right and weren’t cheesy at all.

Also the main character Allison Sekemoto is Asian, so can we also keep it that way?  Since Hollywood has been casting white actresses in Asian roles.

Goodreads Summary:

Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a walled-in city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten. Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them—the vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself dies and becomes one of the monsters.

Forced to flee her city, Allie must pass for human as she joins a ragged group of pilgrims seeking a legend—a place that might have a cure for the disease that killed off most of civilization and created the rabids, the bloodthirsty creatures who threaten human and vampire alike. And soon Allie will have to decide what and who is worth dying for… again.

Enter Julie Kagawa’s dark and twisted world as an unforgettable journey begins.

What are your top 5 foreign films?

1. Amelie (2001)

This is one of those movies that I can watch a million times and never get bored of it.  It is fun, quirky, romantic, awkward in a good way, and funny!

2. Pan’s Labyrinth (2006)

By looking at the cover of this one you may think that it is a friendly family film, but it isn’t at all.  It is dark yet hauntingly beautiful with creatures that are so magnificent and scary that they will stay with you for a lifetime.

3. Let the Right One In (2008)

Yes there is a U.S. version, but the foreign one is way better even though the U.S. one is good too.  The relationship between the boy and the “girl” is very interesting, and it is one of the better vampire movies. (This one also has a book)

4. The Orphanage  (2007)

This film I thought was just going to be the same old ghost story type of movie, but it is not.  It gave me emotions and made my chest pound with grief.

5. Priceless (2006)

I am one that doesn’t like most comedies because for one most of them seem to try too hard, but I found this one to be really funny and the odd circumstances that the leads find each other in are hilarious.

Motion Picture Monday: Perfect Soundtrack Song

Motion

Out of all the movies out in the world today which one has the perfect soundtrack song, and what is that song?

For me there are so many good movies out there, and I notice a lot have terrible soundtrack songs that I wish I could have just put the soundtracks together myself (I am looking at you Fifty Shades of Grey).

Movie: The Crow (1994)

Imdb Summary: A man brutally murdered comes back to life as an undead avenger of his and his fiancée’s murder.

Song: Burn by: The Cure

Everything about it goes absolutely perfect with the movie whether it is the tone, the dark sounds, the emotion, or the instruments.

The crow is a dark movie with a lot of action, and it needed this song for that soundtrack!
