Movie Review: Ready or Not

Imdb Summary:

A bride’s wedding night takes a sinister turn when her eccentric new in-laws force her to take part in a terrifying game.

My Review:

I knew after seeing the trailer for this that it would be one of my most anticipated movies of the year. It’s totally my style! There’s some blood, romance, humor, running, a game, and lots more blood!

I’m not the biggest Adam Brody fan in the world here, but he was so good and was my absolute favorite character. The weapons in the movie were awesome, and can I also just say I loved Grace’s bridal dress with the converse and the gun—totally on point!

There were some awesome twists, and I was so glad it was rated R because sometimes when horror movies have a PG-13 rating then they are just so watered down. Anyway, absolutely loved this one and am so glad it did not fail me!

What is your most anticipated movie coming out?

Review: Replica

Title: Replica

Author: Lauren Oliver

Date of Publication: October 4th, 2016

Goodreads Summary:

From a distance, the Haven Institute, tucked away on a private island off the coast of Florida, looks serene and even beautiful. But up close the locked doors, military guards, and biohazard suits tell a different story. In truth, it is a clandestine research facility where thousands of replicas, or human models, are born, raised, and observed.

But when a surprise attack is launched on Haven, two of its young experimental subjects—Lyra, or 24, and the boy known only as 72—manage to escape. As they make their way through a new and menacing environment, they meet a stranger named Gemma, who has embarked on a perilous quest of her own. And as Lyra tries to understand Haven’s purpose, she uncovers earth-shattering secrets that will change the lives of both girls.

Gemma has been in and out of hospitals her whole life. A sickly child, she has grown into a lonely adolescent whose life is circumscribed by home, school, and her best friend, April.

But after she is nearly abducted by a stranger claiming to know her, Gemma starts to investigate her family’s past and discovers her father’s mysterious connection to the secretive Haven research facility. Hungry for answers, she travels to Florida, only to stumble upon two human models, or replicas, 24 and 72—and a completely new set of questions. As Gemma tries to unravel the mysteries of Haven, she learnes terrible truths about herself and her family that will threaten to destroy everything she loves.

Two girls, two stories, one novel.

While the stories of Gemma and Lyra mirror each other, each contains revelations critically important to the other story. Their narratives can be read separately or in alternating chapters.

My Review:

So, me and my friend have started alternatively picking books to read, and this was our next book. I was first excited because of the cover, and because I love Lauren Oliver’s Delirium series.

The book itself can be read three ways. Lyra’s story and then Gemma’s story, Gemma’s story and then Lyra’s story, or alternate between chapters. I feel like my mistake was reading Lyra’s whole story first. I should have alternated between the two because I think it wouldn’t have felt as repetitive. The concept is pretty cool, though.

Also have you seen The Island? I love that freaking movie, and I thought that this was basically a retelling of that when I read Lyra’s story… The romance and things that happened with 72 and Lyra even reminded me of The Island.

My main issue with this book was these girls! It made sense for Lyra to not understand the world and things, but she would give these nicknames to people that were just odd. Gemma, on the other hand, was not a skinny girl which I thought was great. BUTTTTTT we never stop hearing about it. She doesn’t want to order her a Happy Meal in front of a guy or her thinks about her non-existent waist, etc. It just would have been awesome for her not to bring it up all the time!

The boys however were extremely likable! I loved 72 and I loved Pete! The story was fun in some places, but the twists I wasn’t surprised by. Overall, it was just okay for me!

My Review:

It had been a while since I read Wicked since I have been waiting for a year and a half for book two. I actually like this one maybe a little more than book one which was a surprise because I really liked Wicked.

The book starts exactly where book one left off with Ivy discovering that she is a halfling. She decides not to tell Ren because he is with The Elite, and he came specifically to their town to find and kill the halfling. The ancients are now in her world, and The Prince is after her to impregnate her with his child because their baby will help destroy everything.

It took me a few chapters to get into this book, but as soon as I was in I was in and could not put the book down! Tink is still one of my favorite characters. He is crazy and hilarious, and the best scene in the whole book is when one of The Prince’s men comes to Ivy’s apartment to attack. You will know once you read!

Ren is still one of my favorite male character’s that Jennifer has written. I did get a little frustrated with him for one thing that he did, but I am now past that.  There are some very perfect romance scenes between Ren and Ivy that I absolutely adored and even heart wrenching emotional ones that made my eyes tear up.

When Ivy gets to The Prince’s home things really are a ride full of torture, and I wanted to rip The Prince apart myself for the things that he does and tries to do. You are able to see Ivy fall apart, but there is always that fighter in her that is keeping her from being destroyed. While being a little more damaged than she was she is still such a strong character, and I know in the next book Ivy will be able to be stronger than she ever was before.

Torn was a great book that had a little bit of everything from romance, comedy, drama, action, and raw emotion.

“You need this book. You need this series. It’s paranormal at its best. It’s New Adult at its best…Can I give this book more than 5 stars? I would if I could.” ~Valerie, Stuck in Books

I lifted my right hand, reaching for my iron stake out of instinct, even though I knew it would do no good against the prince.

“You shouldn’t do that.” His voice was deep with what reminded me of an English accent. “I know you want to, but it would be very, very unwise of you, Ivy.”

My hand twitched.

Creepy Prince smiled slightly. “Your friend has been very helpful.”

That got my hackles up. I slid my sunglasses onto my forehead and forced my tone to stay calm and level. “I’m sure she has. Speaking of Val, happen to know where I can find her?”

His lips curled in a semblance of a smile as he stepped closer. The prince was tall, taller than Ren, who was pushing six foot two. My entire back stiffened as I forced myself to hold my ground, even though every instinct demanded that I run and run super fast, because he had almost killed me once before. Correction. He would have definitely killed me if he hadn’t realized what I was and had, I guessed, healed me.

“I’ve been waiting for you,” he said, instead of answering my question, his pale blue eyes fixed on mine.

My hand curled into a useless fist. “That is extremely creepy to hear.”

That cold smile returned. “Why don’t we talk? There are seats across the way.”

“Yeah, that’s not going to happen.”

The slow smile increased but never reached his eyes. “Oh, I know it is.”

Fine hairs rose on my arms.

“What exactly can you do right now?” he said in the same coldly polite voice. “Refuse me?” Creepy Prince laughed, and it wasn’t a bad sound. Again, it was something that was just cold, as if he were mimicking what a human would do. “You can’t.”

“I can.” My palm itched to grab the thorn stake secured under my pant leg, but I held still. I might be reckless, but I wasn’t stupid.

“Really? I will have to beg to differ on that. You see, humans surround us. So many of them, and I have an extraordinary appetite.” His eyes appeared to glimmer as his gaze slithered from the top of my curly head down to my toes. “A rather impressive appetite for many, many things.”

“Okay. First off, ew.” My lip curled. “Secondly, I don’t want to hear about any of your appetites.”

One dark eyebrow rose. “Oh, but you should know that I could kill twenty of these humans in less than five seconds and feed on the rest, leaving them to believe that it was this little red-headed girl who murdered these innocent people.” His voice dropped even lower as he leaned in and icy air brushed my cheek. “You deny me this, those lives will be on your hands, little bird.”

Anger flushed hotly as my eyes met his. There wasn’t a single part of me that doubted anything he said. He had me. God, I hated to admit it, but he had me.

“Drama! Action! Romance! Twists! Torn had it all…Torn was a perfect continuation of the Wicked Saga.” ~Kim, Kimberlyfaye Reads
