Summary:

Lia Abbie has the easy life—kicking it back with old school video games, hanging out with her best friend Barnabas, and alternating her living schedule between the apartments of her two dads and her mom.

Kiev Jimenez is a theater geek who loves him some Shakespeare and taking care of his pet armadillo. He has one set goal in life: obtaining the role of Horatio for the Hamlet school play.

When a showdown between Lia and Kiev lands them in the principal’s office, they’re forced into volunteer work at the cringe-worthy Piggy Palooza Festival, or risk being suspended. Lia and Kiev aren’t thrilled about the situation, especially when it interferes with Lia’s relaxed life and Kiev’s theater role. But by working together, they may find more than just bacon—possibly a little love in the air.

More news on Bacon Pie to come!

Windswept: Cover Reveal + Excerpt

Windswept

Windswept

Publisher: Parliament House Press

An Unseen World believes Tanzy Hightower is the key to an ancient prophecy. They’ve waited a thousand years for her soul to return. Now, a war is waged between those who will stop at nothing to fulfill the prophecy, and those who’ve sworn an oath to end Tanzy’s existence, permanently.

Tanzy’s allies insist she seek refuge in a remote safe house in the Outer Banks. But the blood of a savage, wild horse runs in Tanzy’s veins, and its instincts are becoming impossible to control. She’s determined to rescue Lucas, an Unseen creature who has loved her since her first life, and to rescue the stolen Wildwood horses from a catastrophic end in the world beyond the veil.

While her fellow candidates beg her to stay in hiding, new enemies work to draw her out, making it clear Lucas and the horses are hers for the taking. Tanzy quickly learns that when your loved ones are used as bait, finding them is only the beginning…

Excerpt

I have lost myself.

My blood is no longer my own. What now pumps through my body is a thousand years old and not human. My soul has memories of another life neither my mind nor my body experienced.  If blood and soul and memories are what make a person, I no longer belong to myself. If they aren’t, then what else is there?

I once heard our bonds are what make us. I hope that’s not true. I don’t have any left. My father’s body was swallowed by the river. My mother’s spirit was smothered by whiskey. My friends are not my friends, and I am not even myself – not really. A thousand year old soul has made a home inside this body. They say she’s me, that we are one in the same – not two souls fighting for territory. One. So why does that girl – her life, her loss, her love, her sacrifice – feel more like a bedtime story recalled from childhood, and nothing like something I once lived through – something I once died for?

I used to think having something to fight for made a person strong. So I fought. I fought against the belief that my father was dead – the dive team never found him, after all, and even magic couldn’t recover his body from the water. I fought for my mother, forfeited Wildwood and college, the world beyond the walls of our house, and every ounce of my happiness for her, and she still abandoned me. I fought for Vanessa. I trusted her. Trusted Dana and Lucas, and all of them betrayed me. Over and over I fought and fought, and I didn’t gain strength. I didn’t win. I broke.

All this time, I’ve been wrong. Dead wrong. Having something to fight for doesn’t make a person strong. Our bonds, our empathy, our very humanity… they’re vulnerabilities. Weaknesses.

We become most dangerous when we have nothing left to lose.

A Legend,
A Magical Shell
A Girl Who Dreamed Of Something More…

Lena, a Merrow girl, lives in the Skagerrak sea with her father, Carrick and her brother, Javelin who tells her of the legend of the Merrow Queen murdered by her human lover when greed takes over. But what’s worth spilling the queen’s blood? Gifted from Poseidon, himself, a magic shell gives any human the ability to control both land and sea.

When Javelin is called to join a clan of Merrow soldiers bent on protecting their waters from human invasion, Lena resists Merrow law and ventures to the shore with no choice but to swim to land.

With newfound legs, Lena is whisked away on a new adventure with new friends and new trouble. Everyone seems to want something from her as intrigue lurks around every corner.

Trying her best to hide who she is and remain safe from the dangers of the human world, will Lena finally find where she belongs, or will she be swept into a strong and stormy current by lust, greed, and jealousy?

dd

Prologue

The roaring tide around the Queen of Skagerrak’s fins helped to mute the faint sobs emerging from her blue, scaled lips. Her fins twisted into two perfectly-shaped legs, her skin creamy and soft in the light from the full moon high in the black sky, illuminating the land and sea.

As the transition came to an end, she felt her forbidden lover brush soft, chaste kisses against her neck, a warm homecoming to the human world. His fingers grazed over a delicate, pink shell strung around her neck by a gold chain. The lover, concealing his greed with distracting, tender kisses, wished for nothing more than to steal the magical shell for himself. In those quiet moments, consumed by his lips, she never saw the gleam of silver clutched in his fist as he held her.

With endearment whispered against her ear, the dagger sent a searing kiss into her back. The Queen’s eyes wide with shock, the lover twisting the blade, her cool blood poured over the sand. The lover’s hands darted for the shell, tugging on the golden chain. In her last throes of life, the Queen resisted and threw the shell into the crashing waves, bidding her father Poseidon to wash it away. Her last act of forgiveness for betraying her husband, her people and her home.

With a promised curse on his lips, the anti-lover trailed back into the night leaving the Merrow Queen to dissolve back into the watery depths. But he was determined to one day possess the world between the sea and stars, and all who dwell beneath the waves.
