Goodreads Summary:

Ding dong—Dorothy is dead.

I watched as the Emerald Palace crumbled to the ground, burying Dorothy, the Girl Who Rode the Cyclone, under the rubble. And now that the rightful ruler, Ozma, has been restored to the throne…

Oz is finally free.

My name is Amy Gumm. You might remember me as the othergirl from Kansas. When a tornado whisked me away to the magical land of Oz, I was given a mission: Dorothy must die.

But it turns out girls from Kansas are harder to kill than we look.

Now the Road of Yellow Brick is leading me away from Oz to the dark world of Ev, where I have a new, powerful enemy to deal with: the Nome King. And—surprise—he has a gingham-clad bride.

With my magical shoes and a shrinking group of allies, I have one final chance to fulfill my mission, and save not only what’s left of Oz, but Kansas, too. As the line between Good and Wicked blurs even further, I have to find a way to get rid of Dorothy once and for all—without turning into a monster myself.

Dorothy once said there’s no place like home. Can I stop her from destroying mine?

My Review:

This was an excellent ending to this fun series! All the books including this one has had the perfect blend of light and dark. One of my favorite aspects here were the Wheelers!!!! I loved them in Return to Oz, and the author made them seem so much creepier and awesome in this one!

I have always loved the bond between Knox and Amy, but I felt it was really good here, and there were some super cute moments! The author has extraordinary world building skills, I could visualize all the details throughout this series, but even a lot more in this one. There were some pretty creepy stuff in EV, and the descriptions were on point.

“We all have a witch somewhere inside us.”

This one is also told in dual POV between Dorothy and Amy, and Dorothy’s chapters were all kind of crazy because she IS crazy! And the Gnome King was a freak as usual. I’m seriously going to miss this series and all it’s quirks!

Review: The Wicked Will Rise

Title: The Wicked Will Rise

Author: Danielle Paige

Date of Publication: March 31st, 2015

21436068_119370428725354_8708649197458423808_n

Goodreads Summary:

In this dark, high-octane sequel to the New York Timesbestselling Dorothy Must Die, Amy Gumm must do everything in her power to kill Dorothy and free Oz.

To make Oz a free land again, Amy Gumm was given a mission: remove the Tin Woodman’s heart, steal the Scarecrow’s brain, take the Lion’s courage, and then Dorothy must die…

But Dorothy still lives. Now the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked has vanished, and mysterious Princess Ozma might be Amy’s only ally. As Amy learns the truth about her mission, she realizes that she’s only just scratched the surface of Oz’s past—and that Kansas, the home she couldn’t wait to leave behind, may also be in danger. In a place where the line between good and evil shifts with just a strong gust of wind, who can Amy trust—and who is really Wicked?

My Review:

I wasn’t sure how the sequel was going to be, since I really enjoyed the first book! But… it lived up to being a great second book! Amy is also growing as a character and discovering more things about herself, her power, and Oz.

Again, this book was awesomely dark mixed with humor, which was the perfect combo. There was one absolutely sad part at the beginning where I wanted to punch the Cowardly Lion in the face. I will say that he may or may not get what he deserves.

I never knew which way Amy might go in, because there seems to be a darkness growing in her when her emotions truly come out. So, I can’t wait to see how she handles this problem in the next book.

Ozma is still a basket case at the moment, Pete I loved/hated him, and Knox was great! We are also introduced to Polychrome and Bright, which I read their novella already, and they are interesting characters to say the least. Book 2 does end on a cliffhanger where I have to know what is going on!

Review: Dorothy Must Die: Short Stories

I’m starting Dorothy Must Die as a group read for September, so I thought I should read these prequel novellas since they were on Overdrive!

Title: No Place Like Oz

17331483

Mini Review: Dorothy is on her second trip back to Oz, and she does not want to return to Kansas ever again. Her aunt and uncle journey with her, and the demise of Dorothy was excellent! 5 stars!

Title: The Witch Must Burn

20827345

Mini Review: Loved, loved, loved this one! I really like Jellia and Knox. I want to read more about Knox! Glinda is also a real piece of work. 5 stars!

Title: The Wizard Returns

23507358

Mini Review: I normally hate the Wizard. I just have never liked his character, and James Franco made it worse in his adaptation and douche bag of a character. After reading this, my opinion has not changed of the Wizard, only intensified. He’s an idiot! However, the story was excellent. He never went away in his balloon. Instead, he lost his memory, and we learn more about him along the way. Very interesting! 5 stars!

Title: Heart of Tin

23507377

Mini Review: I actually started with this one since the Tin Man is my favorite. Well, he was an odd one here. He lets his actions be overpowered by his obsession with Dorothy. It was dark and showed just what obsession can do to a person. 5 stars!

Title: The Straw King

24951851

Mini Review: I was hoping that this one was going to be dark like Heart of Tin, but it was actually more about some history of OZ. It was still great, but I really wanted to see the demise of the Scarecrow! I definitely do not like Glinda! 4 stars!

Title: Ruler of Beasts

25742250

Mini Review: I really loved this one! Return to Oz is one of my favorite movies ever, so Nome King, yes! I liked the Ozma/Lion team. I thought they worked great together! But as again, Glinda needs to get out of here! 5 stars!

Title: Order of the Wicked

27161215

Mini Review: This one was really good! This one was very character driven, which was pretty awesome to get me so invested in a novella! I hope to see a lot more of these characters in the series! 5 stars!

Title: Dark Side of the Rainbow

29875034

Mini Review: I absolutely love the cover on this one! There was more of Dorothy in this, and I really liked the main character Polly. I did find Polly to be naive at times, but it was just how she was. The world in this one was magnificent! 4 stars!

Title: The Queen of Oz

30655761

Mini Review: Again, back to Return to Oz (the movie), which I loved Mombi in it. Collecting heads? Awesome! That doesn’t happen here, though. Anyway, I’m going off course here. But I love the character, Mombi, and this novella did not let me down. It is told between two parts, Mombi and Pete. And it was pretty darn interesting uncovering things about these characters! 5 stars!

Review: Stealing Snow

Title: Stealing Snow

Author: Danielle Paige

Date of Publication: September 20th, 2016

28260524

Goodreads Summary:

First kisses sometimes wake slumbering princesses, undo spells, and spark happily ever afters.

Mine broke Bale.

Seventeen-year-old Snow has spent her life locked in Whittaker Psychiatric—but she isn’t crazy. And that’s not the worst of it. Her very first kiss proves anything but innocent…when Bale, her only love, turns violent.

Despite Snow knowing that Bale would never truly hurt her, he is taken away—dashing her last hope for any sort of future in the mental ward she calls home. With nowhere else to turn, Snow finds herself drawn to a strange new orderly who whispers secrets in the night about a mysterious past and a kingdom that’s hers for the taking—if only she can find her way past the iron gates to the Tree that has been haunting her dreams.

Beyond the Tree lies Algid, a land far away from the real world, frozen by a ruthless king. And there too await the River Witch, a village boy named Kai, the charming thief Jagger, and a prophecy that Snow will save them all.

Review:

So, for some reason this book has a ton of low ratings. I know a lot of people have complained about the Love Square, but even Leigh Bardugo’s Shadow & Bone series has a weird love square, but 5’s get thrown at that left and right (I do really like that series as well, though). Anyway, I felt this book had a ton of awesomeness! First, snow power!!!!!

I did feel like the best parts of this book was the first 50% and the last 5%. Our character, Snow, begins in a mental institute where she was placed by her mother. I absolutely loved all the scenes there, and her first kiss with Bale (Romancer #1), Wow, catastrophe occurred!

A mysterious boy shows up (Enter Romancer #2), and Snow finds herself in a new world searching for her beloved Bale. Romancer #2 AKA Jagger gets separated from her, and enter Romancer #3 AKA Kai. These were my favorite parts of the story because the training was all kinds of awesome! And I loved the character Gerde!!!!!

Then somehow we meet back up with Romancer #2, and this is where heist/robbery comes into play. These parts were just okay for me, and I really missed the other characters even though Jagger is all kinds of fun. But the crap hits the fan toward the end of the book, and this is where I need book 2 in my life! If you shut out all the boydom, this story is amazing, but you have to also remember Snow is a teen and she has been locked away in a mental institution for a while, maybe she can’t get her mind straight! Excellent writing, and spot on descriptions and world building!
