Review: Igniting the Ice

Title: Igniting the Ice

Author: Alexa Whitewolf

Date of Publication: June 20th, 2020

Goodreads Summary:

The darkest of mind, for the purest of heart…who will succumb to temptation?

I thought I was smarter – I was wrong. My brother Tytus thwarted my last plan of escape, and now I’m faced with the imminent threat of death.
Until the Romanian immortal who imprisoned me comes to me with a proposition. Save an innocent maiden from the Underworld, return her to the land of the living, and I will be free with a realm all for myself.
Of course, she neglects to mention said maiden is her daughter, and that the journey will place me face to face with the lord of the Underworld himself.
And then none of that seems to matter when I meet Constanza. Because I’ve seen her, before. For the past months, she is all I’ve dreamt about. And I can’t wait to see if the reality matches the fantasy…especially if her pretty, innocent soul can be corrupted.
Unless she gets to mine first, that is.

Having two immortal parents can get overbearing, fast. Which is why I love vacationing in the Underworld and hanging out with Hades and Persephone.
Only this time, the safe walls surrounding us are starting to crumble and, before I know it, we’re under attack. No amount of Greek heroes can help save us… until he shows.
And he just happens to be the sexy angel from my dreams. Only he looks like walking temptation, and Mom’s warnings suddenly don’t matter anymore. May the gods help me, because I’m not getting out of this unharmed, one way or another.

My Review:

I’ve been patiently waiting for Declan’s story for a while, and this one did not disappoint! This is my favorite from this spinoff! Constanza was a great MC too! I really liked her! Of course there was swoon, dragons, immortals, and awesome mythology!!!

I really liked seeing the flashbacks as well. You also get to see the brothers before and after, and I loved seeing the bond there. And besides the great romance, there were some action-packed sequences too! Of course more of Hades and Persephone! Can’t wait for the next spinoff!

Review: Fanning the Flames

Title: Fanning the Flames

Author: Alexa Whitewolf

Date of Publication: April 21st, 2020

Goodreads Summary:

He’s trying to save the world….and she’s saving him.

Family can be a pain in the ass. Even more so when the only blood relative I have left is a brother intent on destroying the world as punishment for a millennia of imprisonment.
Da, one can say I need to be razor-focused in order to figure out what zmeu magic he’s unleashed and how to fix it.
Imagine my surprise when my travels to my ancestral home, deep in the Carpathian Mountains, are disturbed by a doe-eyed witch as intriguing as she is broken.
I don’t have time for fixing her. I need to fix everything else, first. Top of the list being myself and these wounds that won’t heal. The last thing I need is to get dragged into her quest for redemption…. yet somehow I find myself doing just that. And the worst part? I kind of like being her knight in shining armour.

When you’ve been used, bruised and battered as I am, you stop trusting people real fast. Especially supernatural beings who have more power in their pinky than I do in my entire being.
I don’t trust humans, and I sure as hell don’t trust Tytus. He’s a zmeu, and despite those stormy eyes that see right through me, I’m fully aware he’s only in this quest for himself. But I’m hoping I can get something out of it, too. Something to save my soul, and maybe cut this curse I feel dragging me down to the depths of Hell itself.
Only, I’m learning Tytus doesn’t take kindly to being told half truths. Nor to having his charms ignored. And when he turns the full power of his zmeu seduction onto me, I don’t stand a chance. Because the most dangerous thing of all? He’s making me hope for a future that’ll never be.

My Review:

What a fun ride this was! I love the Moonlight Rogues series so much, so when I knew there was going to be a spinoff with dragons, I was so excited!

Tytus was all sorts of swoon and with him being a dragon, that had me right away! Fiona was also a breath of fresh air! She didn’t Tytus, yet chose to be him with him because she wanted to, not because she needed protection. And their romance scenes were on fire, literally! I need to be fanned after that!

Oh boy, we also get to see glimpses of my boy, Declan! I need more of him in my life! Whitewolf has created a really cool world here with action, intrigue, twists, and emotions! Can’t wait for book 2!

If you were a dragon, where is the first place you would fly to?

Review: The Dragon’s Price

Title: The Dragon’s Price

Author: Bethany Wiggins

Date of Publication: February 21st, 2017

Goodreads Summary:

When two warring kingdoms unified against a deadly menace laying waste to both their lands, they had to make a choice: vow to marry their heirs to one another, or forfeit their lives to the dragon.

Centuries later, everyone expects the sheltered princess Sorrowlynn to choose the barbarian prince over the fire-breathing beast—everyone, that is, except Sorrow, who is determined to control her own destiny or die trying.

As she is lowered into the dragon’s chamber, she assumes her life is over until Golmarr, the young prince she just spurned, follows her with the hopes of being her hero and slaying the dragon. But the dragon has a different plan. . . .

If the dragon wins, it will be freed from the spell that has bound it to the cave for centuries. If Sorrow or Golmarr vanquish the dragon, the victor will gain its treasure and escape the cave beneath the mountain. But what exactly is the dragon hiding?

There are no safe havens for Sorrow or Golmarr—not even with each other—and the stakes couldn’t be higher as they risk everything to protect their kingdom.

My Review:

Sorrowlynn has a prophesy that she will one day die by her own hand. It has kept her parents at a distance, and she has a choice to make when another kingdom comes. If the heir chooses to marry her, she can either choose to marry or be lowered to be eaten by a dragon. Her choice is to be eaten by the dragon. One of the King’s sons follows her in the dragon’s layer to help her defeat the dragon.

My first thoughts when I saw the cover to the book was that it looked like it was from another decade, so I chose to avoid the cover and still read the description. The description sounded awesome, and the other early reviews I read seemed to like it, so when I got an ARC I was so excited to start reading it.

I did like the characters for the most part, but my biggest issue with this book was the dialogue. The dialogue and book itself really felt more like middle grade than YA. The romance, which I usually love, was just too insta-love. Sorrow goes to be eaten by this dragon, and Golmarr just flies down to rescue her and he barely knows her? I get it maybe he just wants to rescue her, but then acting like they are best friends right away without getting to know each other? Come on now!

There were a lot of parts that seemed to drag, but for those that like action there was a lot of action too which I did enjoy those parts. The ending was predictable, but if you are on the younger side or haven’t read a lot of YA fantasy you may enjoy this book more than I did.
