R.I.P. George A. Romero

I am kind of late on this because I rarely see any news, but just saw George Romero passed away. I grew up on horror films. Day of the Dead was actually my first zombie movie I had ever seen, and I was way too young to even be watching it. Finally, I saw Night of the Living Dead and then Dawn of the Dead. Land of the Dead was the only one I got to actually see in a movie theater, and I loved it! I used to have the awesomest Night of the Living Dead shirt that I would wear all the time. I think it’s time to order another one!

“They’re coming to get you, Barbra.” That iconic line from Mr. George A. Romero himself is one that will never leave my brain.

Review: The Beguiled

MV5BMTg5NjY3NDYxMl5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwMjI5ODgyMjI@._V1_SY1000_CR0,0,674,1000_AL_

IMDB Summary:

At a girls’ school in Virginia during the Civil War, where the young women have been sheltered from the outside world, a wounded Union soldier is taken in. Soon, the house is taken over with sexual tension, rivalries, and an unexpected turn of events.

My Review:

So, I had no idea that this was a remake until my sister in-law and friend told me while we were at the movies. When I first saw this trailer, I knew I had to see it. It looked dark and awesome. I like most of the actresses here. Colin Farrell can be hit or miss for me.

Anyway, even the music in the trailer has that atmospheric touch. While the movie itself did have a nice atmosphere, it was not as dark as I thought it was going to be. Where was the darkness?????

There was betrayal I suppose? But it could have been better, and the way the trailer portrays some of the stuff is not how it is portrayed on screen. Most of the adult characters came off as wooden. I guess that’s how they are supposed to be during that time? The little girl, Marie, didn’t have a lot of scenes, but she was my favorite. I didn’t like Elle Fanning’s character in this movie, but she pulled off the character well.

It wasn’t bad it’s just I needed more betrayal and cruelty in this movie as bad as that sounds!

Review: Beauty and the Beast

beauty

IMDB Summary:

An adaptation of the Disney fairy tale about a monstrous-looking prince and a young woman who fall in love.

My Review:

First, I love the original Beauty and the Beast like a lot of people. I knew this was going to be pretty similar to that, but I loved this one because while it had all the same elements, it also answered a lot of plot hole questions! There were things in the original that I didn’t have answers to and now I do!

Loved the opening scene! But anything that has that Marie Antoinette vibe, gets me all kinds of excited! Huge fist pump!

The classic songs were intertwined with new songs, which I actually liked! Luke Evans and Josh Gad were awesome as Gaston and Lefou. Emma made the perfect Belle and swoon alert for Dan Stevens! Loved all the side characters! Heck, I loved this entire movie!

Review: A Cure for Wellness

a-cure

IMDB Summary:

An ambitious young executive is sent to retrieve his company’s CEO from an idyllic but mysterious “wellness center” at a remote location in the Swiss Alps but soon suspects that the spa’s miraculous treatments are not what they seem.

My Review:

I don’t even know where to start with this one. I was pretty pumped and liked most of it, but then things got really odd! I loved the sounds and visionary aspects throughout, though.

Lockhart was annoying, why he didn’t crutch his way out of there in the first place was ridiculous. I couldn’t connect with Hannah or why Lockhart was even bothering with worrying about her.

The only actor I liked was Jason Isaacs because he had that whole creep factor going on, and you didn’t know whether to trust him or not. Like I said, it was good until it got super strange in the end which could have been cool, but it did not work here.

Movie Review: Split

split

IMDB Summary:

After three girls are kidnapped by a man with 24 distinct personalities they must find some of the different personalities that can help them while running away and staying alive from the others.

My Review:

So, we all know that M. Knight has a hit or miss when it comes to his movies. The Village is my absolute favorite out of all his movies. Even though a lot of people didn’t like it back in 2004, because it wasn’t what they thought it was going to be. To me, I loved it. It reminded me of Running Out of Time; a middle grade book that I read back in the 90’s. Anyways, I am getting off topic here.

Split was a hit for me. I may be biased because I L.O.V.E. almost all of James McAvoy’s movies. Even if it was a different actor, I still would have liked it. I’m a big fan of movies that have different personalities. Going from one character to another has got to be difficult, and it was sooooooooo good here.

The kidnapped girls, I feel like I would have done things differently in their situations, but I have never been in their situation. So, would I really have? Or, am I all talk? I thought Anya Taylor-Joy was a little mechanical, but her backstory had me understanding why she was the way she was.

The pacing had me wanting to know what was going to happen, and were these “bad personalities” all talk and no show about a beast? We do come to find out. Also, there is a cameo that had me leaping for joy. If you haven’t seen this movie I am talking about, you might not know!

Go check it out for yourself!

Movie Title: Rid of Me

IMDB Summary:

A scathing black comedy of embarrassment, RID OF ME charts the emotional breakdown and rebirth of a woman ripe for self-discovery.

I actually saw this several years ago on Netflix, and I absolutely loved it. I loved Meris, and how she was just trying to find herself after trying to be someone she just wasn’t for a man that she wasn’t meant to be with. It had a lot of funny moments and an even big WTF moment. I just wish that we had small candy stores like that here!
