Goodreads Summary:

Seattle, 1913 // Dorothy is trapped. Forced into an engagement to a wealthy man just so she and her mother can live comfortably for the rest of their days, she’ll do anything to escape. Including sneaking away from her wedding and bolting into the woods to disappear.

New Seattle, 2077 // Ash is on a mission. Rescue the professor—his mentor who figured out the secret to time travel—so together they can put things right in their devastated city. But searching for one man means endless jumps through time with no guarantee of success.

When Dorothy collides with Ash, she sees it as her chance to start fresh—she’ll stow away in his plane and begin a new life wherever they land. Then she wakes up in a future that’s been ripped apart by earthquakes and floods; where vicious gangs rule the submerged city streets and a small group of intrepid travelers from across time are fighting against the odds to return things to normal. What Dorothy doesn’t know is that she could hold the key to unraveling the past—and her arrival may spell Ash’s ultimate destruction.

My Review:

I’m not the biggest fan when it comes to time traveling movies or books. It took me a few time of watching Donnie Darko to actually like it, and the only time traveling series I loved was Ruby Red. However, this was actually a pretty good start!

Right off the bat I loved Ash, and he was very developed. I wanted to shake him a few times for not speaking up about certain things, but I can let that slide! Dorothy, on the other hand, I just could not connect with this girl one bit! I get she had a tough upbringing, but come on girl! Then we had to constantly hear about how beautiful she was.

But I thought the story was great and finished it in one day. Also, the writing was really good, and it was a fun start that had me on my toes to see how it would end. Because I didn’t guess what was going on until the last few chapters, it gets extra cool points for that! Plus, that ending makes me need the next book because I have to know what happens!

Review: Yellow Brick War

Title: Yellow Brick War

Date of Publication: March 15th, 2016

Goodreads Summary:

Once upon a time, there was a girl from Kansas named Dorothy.

You might know her as the Girl Who Rode the Cyclone. She ended up in Oz, where she became friends with the Tin Woodman, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion. But the temptation of magic was too much for her. She let it change her. Her friends became twisted versions of their former selves.

The magical land of Oz is now a dark and menacing place.

My name is Amy Gumm. Tornadoes must have a thing about girls from Kansas, because I got swept away on one too. I also landed in Oz, where Good is Wicked, Wicked is Good, and the Wicked Witches clued me in to my true calling:

Assassin.

The only way to stop Dorothy from destroying Oz—and Kansas—is to kill her. And I’m the only one who can do it.

But I failed. Others died for my mistakes. Because of me, the portal between the worlds has been opened and Kansas and Oz are both in danger. And if I don’t find a way to close it?

Dorothy will make sure I never get to go home again.

My Review:

This one was a whole lot of fun! I think the best part was that we are introduced to the Nome King! Return to Oz is one of my favorite movies ever made with this character, and who is one of the main characters in this book? You guessed it! The Nome King! He is just as awesome and devious in this one.

I also liked that half the book is spent back in Kansas. Amy comes home to her mom, who has started to improve herself as a person while Amy was missing. Madison who was once an enemy becomes an unlikely friend, and she is really funny!!

As with the other books, there is plenty of action, Amy trying to control herself from becoming a monster, cute romance, and darkness mixed with humor! I need the last book now!
