Review: Treyan’s Promise

Title: Treyan’s Promise

Author: M. Dalto

Date of Publication: February 26th, 2019

Goodreads Summary:

Treyan lived his life bound by duty and honor, believing his future as told by the Prophecy of Fire and Light. Even after he found his Empress, he felt he was doing as he was foretold and in the best interest for the Empire. But when his own brother threatens to ruin all he holds dear, Treyan discovers it’s love, and not duty or honor, that drives him to question everything he once knew.

Treyan’s Promise Review:

After reading Two Thousand Years, I was excited to get into the head of my boy, Treyan. And he’s exactly as you expect in this novella! Swoonworthy, real, devoted, and awesome!

My favorite aspect was getting to not only see past day stuff but present as well. The intertwining of past and present always makes the character feel even more developed. And it worked super great here, because we also get to see more of the side characters *cough Reylor* in the chapters!

Also, it was cool to see Alex from someone else’s perspective instead of reading from hers. Love her! The writing was fabulous and seriously need that second book already!

Review: Reylor’s Lament

image1 (1)

Reylor’s Lament Review:

If you’ve read Two Thousand Years, which I hope you have, then you know what a bad, bad boy Reylor is. The question you may find yourselves asking is, was he always this way? There has to be something that made him the way he is, right? Right?

Well, let me tell you dear friends that this is the perfect opportunity to get into this villain’s head. Along the way you learn more about him, more about his background, and more about what made the future story come to pass. You also get glimpses of Treyan, Bria, and crew!

There’s definitely some sibling rivalry!

I highly recommend reading this one because you may possibly change your mind about how you feel about Reylor. Or, like me, you may even love him more than you already do! Great writing and perfect character development in this novella!

Review: Hunter’s Truce

Title: Hunter’s Truce

Author: Elle Beaumont

Date of Publication: December 18th, 2018

Goodreads Summary:

The Big Bad Wolf never killed for fun—he was on a mission.

Little pig, little pig, let me come in. I’ll huff, and I’ll puff, and I’ll blow your house in. We’re tired of death, of prejudice and more, if you don’t make some changes I’ll kick down your door.

When Niklaus von Brandt’s mother is murdered by a poacher it moves him to make a change in the kingdom of Abendrot. Once a kingdom founded by werewolves, it is now ruled by humans who have one goal: eradicate the werewolves. In order to protect what is left of his family, he must make an important decision, one that leads him to become an assassin, and the shadow the kingdom murmurs about.

Too bad the royal family has a secret—a secret that Niklaus plans on using to his advantage, and in the meantime he has given King Ansgar three chances before he comes huffing and puffing.

My Review:

I’ve been really liking novellas and short stories lately! I can read through them quickly and feel satisfied! Also, a Three Little Pigs retelling? Heck yeah!

giphy

This is the second story I’ve read by Elle Beaumont and both have been equally amazing! Even though this is a novella, it was just as developed as a full length book! The writing and world building were on complete point!

Now, I love pretty much anything werewolf, and Niklaus, oh Niklaus, I did thoroughly enjoy being inside your head! There was some action, some romance, some struggles, and a whole lot of fun!

Review: Unconditional Love

Title: Unconditional Love

Author: Alexa Whitewolf

Date of Publication: November 8th, 2018

Goodreads Summary:

It’s summer in Tofino, BC. This means chilling, hanging out with friends and meeting hot boys.

Not so for Maya Finnigan, who’s stuck in summer school with extra classes in order to make it to college. Looks like another summer of studying and boring “fun” – and hanging out with her loyal German Shepherd, Bear. Or will it be?

Kolt Waters meets the “hot” criteria with his intense blue eyes and Brit accent, plus he’s the boy-next-door. But his smug attitude and never-ending jabs get on Maya’s nerves.

When Bear goes missing, surprisingly it’s Kolt who jumps to the rescue. But is their budding romance a happily ever after or a wreck in disguise? And what’s the story with their parents, and the secrets they hide?

Dig in for a summer of fun, mystery and first loves…as unconditional as they come.

My Review:

Sometimes you just have to read a novella! This was the perfect size, and it was such an adorable read! Also, there is a little side love story in here as well that I absolutely loved! Plus, there is a POV from a very special animal as well that just made the story that much better!

I thought Maya and Kolt were super likable characters, and I always love the dislike to like scenarios! And it was done so well! Sometimes when you get to an end of a story and feel that deep breath escape from yourself because the story was so cute, that’s what I did! I’ve read all of Alexa’s books so far, and this one does not disappoint!

Also, awesome news! This book is FREE on Amazon, etc!!

Review: The Lost Sisters

Title: The Lost Sisters

Author: Holly Black

Date of Publication: October 2nd, 2018

40772063

Goodreads Summary:

Sometimes the difference between a love story and a horror story is where the ending comes . . .

While Jude fought for power in the Court of Elfhame against the cruel Prince Cardan, her sister Taryn began to fall in love with the trickster, Locke.

Half-apology and half-explanation, it turns out that Taryn has some secrets of her own to reveal.

My Review:

This was a pretty good read to get into Taryn’s head about things. However, I still don’t like her. But I mean, you don’t really have to to like the book.

giphy

I also was not a fan of the second person POV—it’s always an odd feeling. Like as soon as the word “you” is used, I look down at myself, and point to my chest like “who, me?”

But I will say I seriously love Holly’s writing, and this was a great novella to get a little more of the world in between the books, along with a different character’s POV! Definitely recommend if you love the series!

The Prince: Review + Excerpt

From #1 New York Times Bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout, comes THE PRINCE, a new novella in her Wicked Series, brought to you by 1,001 Dark Nights! Be sure to grab your copy today!

From #1 New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes a new story in her Wicked series…

She’s everything he wants….

Cold. Heartless. Deadly. Whispers of his name alone bring fear to fae and mortals alike. The Prince. There is nothing in the mortal world more dangerous than him. Haunted by a past he couldn’t control, all Caden desires is revenge against those who’d wronged him, trapping him in never-ending nightmare. And there is one person he knows can help him.

She’s everything he can’t have…

Raised within the Order, Brighton Jussier knows just how dangerous the Prince is, reformed or not. She’d seen firsthand what atrocities he could be capable of. The last thing she wants to do is help him, but he leaves her little choice. Forced to work alongside him, she begins to see the man under the bitter ice. Yearning for him feels like the definition of insanity, but there’s no denying the heat in his touch and the wicked promise is his stare.

She’s everything he’ll take….

But there’s someone out there who wants to return the Prince to his former self. A walking, breathing nightmare that is hell bent on destroying the world and everyone close to him. The last thing either of them needs is a distraction, but with the attraction growing between them each now, the one thing he wants more than anything may be the one thing that will be his undoing.

She’s everything he’d die for….

Excerpt:

My entire body jerked at that comment, striking too close to home for comfort. “Let go of me.”

He held my gaze as he slowly lifted one finger after another, releasing my wrist. That bitter knot was back in my throat. The Prince had let go and his heavy lashes lowered, shielding his powerful gaze, but I swore I could still feel it. “My apologies,” he murmured. “That was uncalled for.”

A feather could’ve knocked me over right then. He was apologizing? The Prince? “Yeah, it was.” I swallowed hard, taking a step back from him.

“Even if it is true,” he added.

“Wow. Way to ruin an apology,” I muttered. “Not that you probably even know why you just apologized.”

“I do. It hurt you. Those words.”

“What? You can smell that, too?”

Those heavy lashes lifted, and the intensity of his gaze pierced me. Suddenly I thought back to the day I woke up in the hospital, to those eyes. “I can sense many things.”

Oh.

Oooh.

I had the distinct impression that he was talking about earlier, when I was thinking about the dream I had. And boy, didn’t that make me want to crawl up in a hole somewhere. At that moment, I made a mental note to legit not feel anything when I was around him or any other fae.

One eyebrow, several shades darker than his golden hair, lifted.

“Wait. Can you guys read minds?” I asked, voice hushed and thinking I didn’t know nearly as much about the fae as I thought I did.

“We don’t need to.”

Relief hit me, but it quickly faded when his words cycled back through my head. We don’t need to. Meaning picking up on our emotions probably gave them enough insight on what our thoughts were.

Nice.

“Well…” I held the folder closer to my chest. “That’s freaky.”

His lips twitched.

“And I need to go.” I started to turn once more, ordering myself not to run out of the lobby like it was on fire. But I stopped, facing him again. “I do care about these younglings. I will find them or I will find out what happened to them.”

The Prince inclined his head. A moment passed and then he nodded. Thinking this super awkward face to face was now, thankfully, over, I started to turn away again.

“Brighton?”

Desperately ignoring how the way he said my name made me think of stormy summer nights, I faced him, even though common sense screamed that I shouldn’t. I just couldn’t help myself. It wasn’t a compulsion. It was apparently really bad self-control. My wry gaze flickered over his face, and I bit back a sigh. He was the strongest, the deadliest of his kind, and that knowledge did nothing to dampen my appreciation of his masculine beauty.

“The red hair was a nice touch, but I prefer it this way.”

And then with those parting words, he turned and stalked off, leaving me standing there knowing one thing only.

The Prince knew it was me Saturday night.

My Review:

I’ve read pretty much all of Armentrout’s books, and this novella did not let me down! The Wicked series has been an awesome ride, so I was pretty ecstatic to see the Prince was getting a novella along with Brighton.

The Prince is a unique character that we learn more about as you get into the novella. As for Brighton, I loved her! Plus, we get more of Tink and his awesomeness. What I liked about this novella was it wasn’t just about a romance. It had a great story and a bond that slowly progresses!

Jennifer has created a unique spin on the fae, and I always love her writing and characters! I will say from the ending, is there more? There’s more, right? Highly recommend this one!

EXCERPT:

Did it make you a bad friend if you were completely, a hundred percent envious of that friend? Yes? No? Kind of?

I figured it was somewhere in between.

That’s what I was mulling over as I watched Ivy Morgan brush thick, red curls over her shoulder, laughing at something her boyfriend Ren Owens had said to her.

At least I wasn’t envious of that—their love. Okay, well, that wasn’t entirely true. Pretty sure anyone who was as single as me would be envious of all that warm and fuzzy that was passed back and forth with each long look or casual brush of skin. The two could barely tear their gazes away from one another to eat the dinner we’d grabbed at the cute little diner inside the shopping center on Prytania Street.

I honest to God couldn’t be happier for them. They’d been through so much—way more than two people should ever have to go through to be together, and here they were, stronger and more in love than ever, and they deserved that happiness.

But their epic love story wasn’t the source of a current case of the green-eye monster that was sitting on my shoulder.

Ivy was just such a… badass.

Even right now, relaxed in the chair, surrounded by twinkling Christmas lights with her hand in Ren’s and her belly full of a cheeseburger deluxe and crinkle fries and half of my tater tots, she could kick ass and take names along with addresses, telephone numbers, and social security numbers.

If the proverbial poo hit the fan, you called Ivy or Ren.

If you needed to know what streets Royal intersected with, you called… me. Or if you needed coffee or fresh beignets but were currently busy, you know, saving the world, you’d call me.

The three of us were all members of the Order, a widespread organization that was literally the only thing that stood between mankind and complete, utter enslavement and destruction by the fae. And not the super cute fae found in Disney movies or some crap like that. Humans thought they were on top of the food chain. They were wrong. The fae were.

The only thing pop culture got right about the fae was their slightly pointy ears. That was it. The fae were more than just beings from another world—the Otherworld—they were capable of glamouring their appearance to blend in with humans. But all Order members, even me, were warded at birth against the glamour. We saw through the human façade to the creature that lurked beneath.
