Review: The Summer Palace and Other Stories

Title: The Summer Palace and Other Stories

Author: C.S. Pacat

Goodreads Summary:

Follow Damen, Laurent and the supporting characters of Captive Prince on a series of adventures set in and around the events of the novels – and beyond, to learn what happens after the final page in the trilogy is turned.

My Review:

I love short stories but sometimes bonus short stories within a series are a hit or miss for me. However, I loved this so much!

Green but for a Season

This was a good little glimpse into Jord and I also liked the back-flashes with a young Laurent!

The Summer Palace

This was the perfect epilogue of sorts that I needed after the last book! I love Laurent and Damen so much! They are so sweet and perfect in every scene they have together!

The Adventures of Charls, the Veretian Cloth Merchant

This one was a lot of fun! I loved seeing Laurent and Damen undercover again, except from Charls’s perspective! And that ending was great!

Pet

I didn’t know this was something I needed until I read it! Ancel is honest with his words and it’s perfection! And seriously, I need a full-length novel on Ancel and Berenger!

I definitely recommend checking this collection out if you loved the Captive Prince Trilogy!

My Review:

If you’re looking for a book full of mystery and intrigue, then this is it! I love reading anthologies because I can read the versatile stories between the authors with a common theme. This one being Mardi Gras! Which! I’ve never read a book centered around that so it was pretty cool!

Each tale had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out how the story was going to end. There are murderers, there are ghosts, there are crimes, there are kisses, there’s a Louisiana setting, and there is lots and lots of awesomeness!

All the authors had a unique dip into the theme, and all of them had a wonderful atmosphere! Overall, seriously a fun collection!

Goodreads Summary:

Each year, people all over the world celebrate special festivals and days, shining light on what they wish to remember and revere. But sometimes, inhabitants of the dark arrive with the desire to disturb proceedings. Dark Celebrations is a collection of twelve short stories. And the holidays will never be the same.

My Review:

This was a great collection and I loved that I could read through each story quickly! My favorite would have to either be Prom Screams or Trick or Death! There was true imagination that went into these stories and the writing, along with the dialogue, was excellent!! Wonderful and horrific descriptions! My favorite kinds of things!
